  • Did you know that the original name for the butterfly was 'flutterby'?
  • A cheetah can run 76 kilometres per hour (46 miles per hour) - that's really fast! The fastest human beings runs only about 30 kilometres per hour (18 miles per hour).
  • Did you know there are two kinds of camels? One is the Arabian that lives in Western Asia and Northern Africa. It has one hump. And the second kind is called Bactrian which has two humps.
  • There are two kinds of elephants: the African that is taller and has larger ears and the Indian that is small and has smaller ears.
  • The blue whale is the largest animal on earth. The heart of a blue whale is as big as a car, and it's tongue is as long as an elephant.

  • With an amazing 50 teeth, the Virginia Opossum has more gnashers than any other mammal...and you can see them at Folly Farm!
  • Tortoises have lifespans comparable to human beings...Folly Zoo's resident Sulcata Tortoise, Albert, is in his forties!

  • Folly Farm's Vintage Funfair has more than 10,000 light bulbs on all the rides!
  • Folly Farm's biggest giraffe, Zulu, weighs a whopping 248 stone!
  • The tongue of a giraffe is on average 18 inches long. It is black so that when they reach for leaves in the desert heat they don't get sunburnt tongues!
  • Giraffes can see up to five miles away so make perfect companions for Zebras as they can warn them if any lions are approaching!
  • Giraffes defend themselves from predators or threats with a powerful kick, the force of which could knock a car on its side...you have been warned!
  • Giraffes sleep standing up with their eyes open and they only do it for three minutes at a time...now that's what you call a power nap!
  • A female Red River Hog is pregnant for three months, three weeks and three days...that's easy to remember!
Folly Facts

Folly Farm opened as a tourist attraction in 1988, a farm diversification project which was the brainchild of dairy farmer Glyn Williams and his wife Anne, a Head Teacher.  To this day Folly Farm's mission remains to "Educate and Entertain".

Their daughter Karina and her husband Chris joined the family business after a year working in America at the Disney parks, where they earnt their "ears" and brought their Mickey Mouse degrees and a whole raft of attraction knowledge back home to Wales.

Their children Jamie, Bill and Lily are invaluable to the business providing the much-needed children's perspective and giving Chris and Karina the knowledge of what parent's want from a day out. 

The whole family are heavily involved in the running of the business on a daily basis and they care passionately about delivering excellent customer service, investing each year to keep the attraction fresh and creating fabulous family memories.
