The Blue and Gold Macaw, also known as the Blue and Yellow
Macaw, is native to the forests and woodland of tropical South
America. Macaws are vivid in appearance with blue wings and
tail, dark blue chin, golden under parts and a green
forehead. The naked face is white, turning pink in excited
birds, and lined with small black feathers.
This Macaw uses its powerful beak for breaking nutshells,
and also for climbing up and hanging from trees.
Macaws generally mates for life and make popular pets because of
their striking appearance, talking ability and the fact
they bond closely with their owners.
