The Chinese Fire Bellied Newt is naturally from China being found at the lower reach of Yangtze river and adjacent area. It is found amongst the low lying foothills ranging from 30 to 1000 metres above sea level and is always found near to bodies of still water. This is a common and abundant species in its range at present and unfortunately large numbers of wild-caught animals appear in the pet trade every year.
