The Sulcata or African-spurred Tortoise is the largest on the
African mainland. They are native to the Northern parts of
Africa; Senegal, Niger, Chad and Ethiopia.
CREATURE FEATURE: ALBERT
Folly Farm houses many different species of Tortoise but
none quite as special as Albert. He is a true monster of a
Tortoise weighing in excess of 25 kilos! One of his favourite
games is to run (as fast as a Tortoise can!) to the far end of his
enclosure just before bed time and lift his feet up. This
means that the keepers have to carry him to bed nearly every night
which is no easy task! Albert certainly ranks as one of the
most mischievous animals in Folly Farm's zoo.
