For educational purposes our animals are grouped into
the following zones to make it easier for you to appreciate their
natural habitats;
Wallaby Walkabout - The Australian
Outback
The animals in this zone are naturally found in Australia. The
types of habitat in which they live tend to be areas of scrubland
or open forest with stretches of dry grass, widely spaced patches
of bushes and clumps of trees - better known as the Bush!
Coping with Extremes - Desert Heat
The animals in this zone are all naturally found in desert habitats
throughout the world. These animals have developed novel and
amazing adaptations to cope with extreme temperatures, shifting
sand dunes and lack of food and water. These are the true animal
survival experts!
Okavango Delta - The Wetlands of Africa
The animals in this zone are all naturally found in the Wetlands of
Africa. The types of habitat in which they live tend to be
grasslands, lagoons and reed beds that support a diverse range of
wildlife. The water acts as a food provider, a safe retreat and a
place to call home for some truly specialised creatures. Webbed
feet, long legs and the ability to swim are essential!
Motobo Hills - African Reserve
The animals in this zone are all naturally found roaming the
African Savanna. The types of habitat in which they live tend to be
arid and bushy grassland, open wooded areas, and the wide open
plains of the savanna. Animals here show a huge range of diversity
and with limited resources are often forced to adapt to survive.
This is lion country so only the fast or the smart will make
it!
C.R.O.A.K. - Conservation and Re-introduction of Amphibian
Kind
The amphibians in this zone are part of a breeding
programme which was launched in 2008 in conjunction with the EAZA
Amphibian Ark Campaign. The types of habitat in which amphibians
live tends to be just about anywhere there s fresh water, from the
desert to the Arctic, on all continents except Antarctica. Though
they thrive in warm, moist, tropical climates, amphibians also live
in deserts and 15,000 foot high up on mountain slopes.
Folly Amazonia - The Mighty Amazon
The animals in this zone are all naturally found in and
around the South American Amazon Rainforests. Here the lush
tropical rainforest meets the banks of the mighty Amazon river.
This is a hugely productive habitat and with fruit and nuts
abundant throughout the year gives rise to one of the world's
busiest ecosystems. From monkeys to tapir the Amazon is
alive!
Folly Forests - Life in the Trees
The animals in this zone are all naturally found in and
around forests, both tropical and temperate. The type of habitat in
which they live tends be the floor and canopy of forests, amongst
foliage and up in the trees. Climbers, swingers, jumpers, foragers,
hunters and browsers aplenty, the trick lies in spotting
them!
Coping with Extremes - Cold Climate
The animals in this zone are all naturally found in extremely cold
climates. The type of habitat in which they live is a frozen
wasteland in which you must adapt or perish. In order to survive
these extreme conditions these animals have had to develop thicker
coats, novel ways of finding food, new methods of locomotion over
ice and snow, and ways to avoid the coldest of weathers the planet
can throw at them. Only the strong will make it!
Pembrokeshire Patagonia - South American Grasslands
The animals in this zone are all naturally found in Patagonia,
South America. Mostly located in Argentina and partly in Chile,
Patagonia comprises the Andes mountains to the West and South, and
plateau and low plains to the East. Animals here range from the
hardy alpacas, prized by the Inca people for their fleece, to the
flocks of rhea, giants among birds.
Folly Interactive - Educate and Entertain
The animals in this zone have been selected for their
ability to be used for educational purposes. They can all be
handled by our Zoo Keepers and used in talks and shows in close
proximity with the public.
