arrival at Folly Farm

Europe
11 May 2011, Folly Farm, Kilgetty,
Pembrokeshire: Folly Farm today announced the
arrival of a tiny, three inch long, Common Marmoset monkey, born to
ex-laboratory monkeys that were re-homed as part of a huge
co-ordinated re-homing exercise by the Specialist Animal Re-homing
Unit based at Heathrow following the closure of a science
laboratory earlier this year. The baby, yet to be named, was
born to Dad "Diddy" and Mum "Sprout" and joins sister "Pea" in the
recently opened Folly Interactive exhibit.

Tim Morphew, Zoo Manager at Folly Farm, explained; "We're
delighted with our tiny new arrival as it shows how well these
monkeys have settled in their new home. The baby is very
strong and spends a lot of its time clinging to dad's back as the
male takes the lead on the rearing, handing baby back to mum for
feeding.
"Common Marmosets are very small primates anyway so this tiny new
addition will be a real treat for visitors...well for those that
spot it."

Folly Interactive is a new education-based sensory exhibit which includes a reptile house, an ocean room and a tropical rainforest. Interactive exhibits and an array of animals, from Burmese Pythons to Common Marmoset Monkeys, from Armadillos to a Blue and gold Macaw help tell the story of the rainforest products, conservation, colour and the purpose of poo!
