14 July 2010, Folly Farm, Kilgetty,
Pembrokeshire: Folly Farm played host to children's
television presenter Alex Winters, best known for his presenting
role on BBC's CBeebies channel. Alex was filming a series of
videos for Folly Farm's new website which will launch in time for
the Summer holidays.
Accompanying Alex on camera were pupils from Templeton Primary
School who played the part of Folly Farm Newshounds investigating
what you can get up to on a day out at Folly Farm. The four
videos on the Zoo, Vintage Funfair, Jolly Barn and Adventure Play
will be a key feature on the new website providing visitors with a
taste of the different attractions and activities at the popular
West Wales attraction.
Head Teacher at Templeton Primary School, Mike Perkins, said of the
experience; "We do media studies in the upper school so it's been
an extremely valuable lesson for the pupils to get involved in the
filming at Folly Farm. It was also good fun for them to meet
a professional presenter like Alex and see what hard work goes into
to getting just a few minutes of useable film."
Alex Winters added; "I have two pre-school children myself, so was
already a huge fan of Folly Farm and only too pleased to take on
this filming job. A lot of work has already gone into the
website and these videos will be a real addition...I just can't
wait to see it launch.
"The Pembrokeshire weather was very kind to us during filming
despite forecasts and I've really enjoyed my stay in the
county. We were lucky enough to enjoy the hospitality of the
Plas Hyfryd Hotel in Narberth and the Bluestone Resort."
Zoё Wright, PR and Marketing Manager at Folly Farm enthused; "Alex
was a delight to work with and I can't wait to see the end
result. The Folly Newshounds from Templeton School were
little stars and really enjoyed the experience of meeting such a
well known presenter.
"In fact he was such a hit we had to keep stopping so Alex could
have his photo taken with all Folly Farm's little visitors...he
really made their day!"
The new Folly Farm website will launch at the end of July and
Alex's videos will headline the Zoo, Jolly Barn, Vintage Funfair
and Adventure Play pages. There are also some fantastic
games to play and you can search the animal database to learn more
about the zoo animals.
Folly Newshounds is a section of the site which is dedicated to
encourage budding journalists by asking them to send in their own
stories about our animals or their day out at Folly Farm or even
film their own video diaries. A selection of stories will be
posted on the Newshounds page and a search for regular Newshounds
to report for Folly TV will also be launched.
