16 February 2011, Folly Farm, Kilgetty,
Pembrokeshire: Ground work has begun for the installation
of a major new ride, the largest permanent ride of its kind in
Wales, at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo, the Pembrokeshire
based tourist attraction, at a cost of £500,000. The
Pembrokeshire Wheel, a 25 metre Big Wheel, will replace the current
fairground wheel which stands at half the height. Due to its
new elevated position at the highest point in the park, the
carriages will afford unparalleled views of the Pembrokeshire
countryside and coastal landmarks. With 18 carriages each
accommodating six people and no height restrictions for children
when accompanied by an adult, The Pembrokeshire Wheel is a new ride
for the whole family, from babies to grandparents. A special
rectangular carriage is also being added to allow access for
wheelchair-users.
Councillor Rob Lewis, Pembrokeshire County Council's Cabinet
Member for Cultural Services, visited Folly Farm to experience for
himself the views The Pembrokeshire Wheel will treat visitors to;
"Folly Farm's new ride will certainly have the wow factor, how can
it not with such sepctacular views of the beautiful award-winning
Pembrokeshire coast on offer."
Chris Ebsworth, Managing Director of Folly Farm, said of this bold
new investment; "The Pembrokeshire Wheel is a fabulous new ride the
whole family can enjoy together and is just part of a heavy
investment plan for Folly Farm this year which will also see the
opening our Folly Interactive centre an educational animal-based
sensory experience and the refurbishment of number of our
fairground rides including our Golden Gallopers ahead of their
ninetieth birthday next year.
"In these testing economic times it's vital as a tourist operation
that we continue to invest to keep the attraction fresh for our
loyal return visitors, The Pembrokeshire Wheel will be a must do
attraction for regular visitors to Folly Farm and
holidymakers."
In order to attract the whole family on board the cost to ride The
Pembrokeshire Wheel has been kept deliberately low at just one
funfair token/50 pence per person.

The big wheel is being supplied by specialist manufacturers Fabbri Group http://www.fabbrigroup.com/.
