NEW ARRIVALS PACK A PUNCH
Red-handed Tamarins, Bruno and Boxer, are now on display in their new enclosure at Folly Farm
01 September 2010, Folly Farm, Kilgetty, Pembrokeshire: Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo are pleased to present...in the Blue corner "Boxer" and in the red corner "Bruno", a pair of Red-handed Tamarins who are now pulling their punches in a brand new enclosure on the zoo. The small black primates have tiny red hands, like boxing gloves and round two of this exciting story will see a breeding female enter the ring as Folly Farm has been accepted into the European Endangered Species Breeding Programme for Tamarins.
Tim Morphew, Zoo Manager at Folly Farm, enthused; "Tamarins and Marmosets are the smallest primates in the World weighing up to half a bag of sugar. Tamarins are active animals and exceptional climbers and jumpers so they will be really good fun to watch as they swing and climb the ropes in their new enclosure."
Folly Farm was given full membership status to the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria earlier this year and as such is taking an active role in a number of European Endangered Species Programmes.
Tim added; "Being accepted onto the breeding programme for Tamarins further cements our position as a major player in the UK zoo community and following last week's breeding success with the arrival of our first male tapir, we couldn't be more proud of the steps forward we are making in the vital area of building a captive reservoir of genetic material."
