13 December 2010, Folly Farm, Kilgetty, Pembrokeshire:  As the mad present buying rush begins, Folly Farm's Zoo Manager today delivered the serious message that reptiles are not just for Christmas.  Casper, a 14ft albino Burmese Python and Flump, a female Bearded Dragon were recently re-homed at Folly Farm from a rescue centre because their owners were no longer able to look after them.  Luckily Folly Farm is increasing its reptile collection so in this instance was able to provide a home for these animals.  Casper is already on display in a purpose-built enclosure and Flump will join him when the extensive makeover of the old Pets' Centre is complete next Spring and re-launched as Folly Interactive.

Tim Morphew, Zoo Manager at Folly Farm, wrapped himself up in a 14ft python to deliver his message; "Our new arrivals serve as a timely reminder that reptiles require a great deal of care and the decision to buy one as a present should not be taken lightly.  Your local zoo will not always be in a position to re-home unwanted pets once the Christmas novelty has worn off.

"On a brighter note, Casper and Flump, along with two more Bearded Dragon babies, are a fantastic addition to our increasing reptile collection which will be a key exhibit in our new Folly Interactive zone offering visitors to Folly Farm the chance for some close encounters of the reptile kind!," enthused Tim.
