CHARITY THRASHING DAY

Pictured: Martell Morse and friends with the fabulous thrashing machine

13 September 2010, Folly Farm, Kilgetty, Pembrokeshire: Earlier this year Martell Morse of St Clears and friends held a charity thrashing day at Folly Farm demonstrating the traditional farming method of harvesting corn using an old fashioned steam-powered thrashing machine.  Hywel Mason of Llandewi Velfrey and Jeff James of Freystrop supplied the steam power with two magnificent engines.

£500 was raised for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) in memory of Hwyel's nephew Dean Mason and former Folly Farm employee Roger Smith.

Glyn Williams, Founder and Director of Folly Farm, said; "Martell Morse and his friends put on a fantastic display for our visitors and it was fascinating to see, and smell, the steam engine powering the thrashing machine as it separated the corn from the straw.

"We were only too happy to make a donation to CRY in honour of Dean and Roger as a thank you to those who gave up their time to put on this display of traditional farming techniques."
