Warm Welcome for Welsh Playgroups

FOLLY FARM GIVES A WARM WELCOME TO WELSH PLAYGROUPS

- Folly Farm hosts Mudiad Meithrin's National Gŵyl Feithrin Tour in its 40th birthday year

17 June 2011, Folly Farm, Kilgetty, Pembrokeshire: Folly Farm today welcomed 500 members of Welsh-medium playgroups and their families to Folly Farm last week for the annual festival organised by Mudiad Meithrin which is celebrating its 40th birthday this year.  Brodyr Gregory (The Gregory Brothers) performed Welsh language songs to a packed audience in the Follies Theatre from various "Cylchoedd" across Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion.

Mudiad Meithrin's Gŵyl Feithrin (Nursery Festival) is held annually during the last three weeks of June following a different theme each year.  This year's theme to coincide with the 40th birthday is 'Celebrations' or "Dathlu" in Welsh.

Ann Howells, Pembrokeshire's Mudiad Meithrin Development Officer, said of the event; "This is the second time we have hosted our Gŵyl Feithrin at Folly Farm and again it proved to be a fantastic venue to celebrate and promote Welsh-medium education amongst the parents of the children who attend our cylchoedd meithrin and cylchoedd Ti a Fi.

"Brodyr Gregory put on a fantastic show and then the children, families and staff made the most of Folly Farm's facilities which are ideal for pre-school aged children.  We hope to return to Folly Farm again next year."

Zoë Wright, PR and Marketing Manager at Folly Farm, added; "We were delighted to welcome back Mudiad Meithrin for their annual festival.  We are proud to be a Welsh business and I'm sure the group enjoyed the new Welsh Language and Welsh Learner's Trails we have introduced to the park."

General Information about Mudiad Meithrin - www.meithrin.co.uk

Mudiad Meithrin is a voluntary organisation. It aims to give every young child in Wales the opportunity to benefit from early years services and experiences through the medium of Welsh. The Mudiad's early years provision includes:

Cylchoedd Meithrin - there are approximately 550 cylchoedd meithrin (Welsh-medium playgroups) across Wales offering daily sessional care and education for children 2 - 5 years old.  Over 10,000 children are given the opportunity to learn through play through the medium of  Welsh at the cylchoedd meithrin.

Cylchoedd Ti a Fi - there are over 450 cylchoedd Ti a Fi across Wales. These  groups offer children from birth through to compulsory school age and their parents an excellent opportunity to meet once a week to socialise, share experiences and to play together in an informal Welsh atmosphere.  Parents are given the opportunity to gain access to information on issues relating to parenting skills, children's health and language development.
