High days and holidays

This Summer Tiggy has spent lots of time at Folly Farm with her brothers and baby Pip.

During the summer holidays our annual passes really prove their worth! We challenged Pembrokeshire blogger Little Miss Tiggy to make even more use from her annual pass this Summer as she charts a year at Folly Farm on her blog.

Over to Meg…

With Tiggy’s brothers home for the summer holidays we spent many a day here at Folly Farm and have had lots of fun!

Tiggy and her brother Reuben enjoying being meerkats!

Something we haven’t done at Folly Farm before is to try out their giant big wheel, it’s 25 metres! So, August saw us do this and what a view of Folly Farm you get! William especially loved this big wheel and trying to spot various animals from the top.

Tiggy loved her first go on the big wheel – it’s amazing after so many visits to Folly Farm we’re still experiencing new things!

Another first for us was to try out the ‘Big Dig Mini Diggers’ and the look of concentration on the boys’ faces says it all, they enjoyed!

Tiggy’s brothers loved the mini-diggers – look at the concentration on Will’s face!

The highlight of this month at Folly Farm for us is without doubt the animal feeding experience we tried. Folly Farm has animal feeding experiences for various animals, you can see them all here: Folly Farm Animal Feeding Experiences and August saw us try out the rhino feeding experience and wow oh wow what an incredible experience this was! I was most envious that I had nominated my husband to undertake this experience.

My husband Ash loved feeding Folly Farm’s rhinos.

Keeper Jack clearly enjoys his job and we learnt so much from him.

We arrived 5 minutes before the rhino feeding experience at Folly Farm’s Kifaru Reserve where their rhino live to be met by Jack who was most knowledgeable about the rhino and listening to him explain all about them was incredibly fascinating, informative, even educational, I learned a lot.

There are 5 types of rhino; Indian rhino (also known as the greater one horned rhino), white rhino, black rhino, Javan rhino and Sumatran rhino and numbers are incredibly low in the wild due to poaching or their being killed for their horn which is why zoos like Folly Farm are part of a conservation programme belonging to 23 managed breeding programmes throughout their membership of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

You can read more about Folly Farm’s conservation efforts here: Zoo Breeding Programmes At Folly Farm and the most exciting of times are happening at Folly Farm right now with the hope that their rhino will breed as they’ve introduced a breeding female to their purpose built breeding facility, I can’t wait to see if they’re successful!

William was pleased Daddy chose the rhino soft toy as his gift from the rhino experience.

As a family we love Folly Farm but knowing what goes on behind the scenes and how much the staff care makes me love it all the more.
