Our fair usage policy means your electricity requirements should be met within your pitch fee. However, in order to keep these fees reasonable and our touring park sustainable, we may need to charge you but only if you exceed the limit.
But in order to keep our pitch fees reasonable and help to keep our electricity requirements at a sustainable level, we’ve introduced a fair usage policy, common at many touring parks and managed by Metpow through meters on each pitch. This policy will begin on 02 March 2026 and we thank you for your continued support and understanding.
For guests, who are already as responsible with their electricity usage on holiday as they would be at home, the daily allowance will cover the reasonable electricity requirements for their stay. For those exceeding these levels there will be a charge payable via the Metpow app for iPhone/Metpow app for Android.
We’re seeing increased electricity costs and greater consumption of electricity year on year. Caravans and motorhomes are now using more electricity than they used to – with built-in heating, air conditioning, and appliances such as air fryers.
As an environmentally conscious business with Conservation, Sustainability and Community as our foundation, we’re always mindful of our energy use – looking for ways to reduce it, switching to more sustainable means of heat such as our biomass heating systems and carbon off-setting our consumption through our conservation initiatives such as tree-planting and habitat restoration.
By metering usage, we can:
Based on average daily household consumption figures* and limits set by other UK park operators, our fair usage policy is set as follows:
January to March and November to December: 12 kWh per day
April and October: 10 kWh per day
May to September: 8 kWh per day
*According to Ofgem the UK average household consumption of electricity is 7.4 kWh per day.
We’re including a daily limit, higher than the UK average household consumption of 7.4kWh per day, within our pitch fees.
For those less energy minded guests, who use more than a reasonable level of electricity, the costs are as follows when exceeding the daily limit;
25p per kWh (from midnight to midnight)
So, if you use 12 kWh in one day whilst staying in August when the daily limit is 8 kWh, you’d pay just £1.00 for the extra 4 kWh.
No. We will be charging what we’re charged by our electricity company which is lower than the average UK household cost per kWh.
This is not a money making exercise, it’s about trying to manage our electricity usage in a fair and sustainable way and so we’re not footing the bill for excessive use by some guests because that’s not fair either.
The hope is that guests will not exceed the daily limit, and therefore not have to pay extra, by just being more mindful of their electricity usage whilst staying with us.

Step 1 – Before you arrive, download the Metpow app in readiness – go to the app store on your mobile device (iOS or Android). Search for Metpow (green plug symbol).
Step 2 – You will need to create an account, by adding basic details. This can be done at home to ensure a smoother and quicker connection on arrival.
Step 3 – On arrival to your pitch – plug into the electric on your pitch.
Step 4 – Open the Metpow app on your phone’s home screen. Click ‘Scan QR code’ on your services bollard. Fill in your departure date.
Step 5 – Set up payment account. Save. You will now need to verify it’s you. If you are given the option to verify via text, choose this (a code will be texted to you). Some phones will immediately take you your banking app to verify. A minimum of £2 per night will be ‘pre-authorised’ by your bank.*
Step 6 – Follow any further instructions in the app. Your electric supply is activated. Check the app at any time to see how much electric you are using / have used.
You’ll see how to check your meter when you arrive.
Usage is transparent and easy to monitor.
If you exceed your allowance, you simply pay for the extra units.
Please note: This money doesn’t physically leave your account. It is being ‘held’. If you do not go over the allocated number of kwh per night, the pre-authorised amount will be released when you leave. If you use over the allocated kwh, any amount owed will be taken after you leave. It may take a number of days for the funds to be released and this is determined by your payment provider.
No smartphone? No problem! Just pop to the arrivals building and we can get you set up manually and take payment without entering any of your details into the system.
You can also delete your profile on the Metpow app at any time.
No, we’re sorry but as the ultimate aim is to get guests to act more responsibly when it comes to their electricity usage your unused daily allowance is not carried over. The daily allowance we’ve applied is not a target to be reached it’s to encourage guests to use under that limit and not be wasteful.
There are many things you can do to stay under the daily allowance.
We have EV charging points in the attraction car park backing onto the holiday park. These are supplied by Pod Point so you may wish to download the Pod Point app before arrival. Please use these to charge your electric vehicles and do not charge them on your pitch.
Absolutely. We’ve emailed everyone who had made a booking before we introduced this fair usage policy to advise of the change and let them know they can cancel their booking if they wish. We will of course refund the non-refundable deposit in this instance.
Please do note though that many touring parks are bringing in electricity metering or increasing their pitch fees to cover excessive energy usage.
