Conservation and Zookeeping Course

We’re joining forces with the Field Studies Council and other partners to bring a brand new course to Pembrokeshire!

The Field Studies Council is an environmental education charity specialising in residential and day field trips for those interested in the natural world. We’re lucky enough to have a Field Studies Council facility right here on the Pembrokeshire coast! Dale Fort gives students spectacular views of the coastline and unparalleled opportunities for learning about nature within the national park.

The Field Studies Council mission is mission is to create outstanding opportunities for everyone to learn about nature

An exciting new course has been launched for young people by the council, suitable for those aged between 16-17 years old who are interested in learning more about zoology and conservation. We’re thrilled to say we’re also getting on board and collaborating with the Field Studies Council on this course – to enable young people to get actively involved in some of our conservation activities and gain a better understanding with some hands-on zoo keeping experience.

Interested in some hands on zoo or conservation experience? This course is for you!

The five-day course offers a chance to explore a range of habitats at nature reserves, including visiting the Pembrokeshire coast to learn about conversation. Part of the course also provides rare, behind-the-scenes access to us at the park. Participants will spend a whole day with us, where Conservation Officer Jack will introduce participants to the park and the range of conservation initiatives that are carried out. The group will analyse some of the animal enclosures and their design, and learn why they have certain features and how they benefit the species. Participants will also join in making some enrichment items for the animals, with an opportunity to observe them investigating these creations.

Jack will be on hand to provide hands on learning around our zoo and wildlife habitats

The first course is available this year in October half term. If you or anyone you know is interested in having a taste of the world of conservation or zookeeping, then this is most definitely the course for you! We hope to see lots of you in October!
