My Tree Our Forest

Collect a free tree from Folly Farm as part of the ‘My Tree, Our Forest’ initiative

This spring we’ve yet again partnered with Coed Cadw, Llais y Goedwig and the Welsh Government to be a tree distribution hub! The My Tree, Our Forest scheme aims to offer every household in Wales a tree sapling, free of charge, to become part of the National Forest for Wales.

Conservation Officer, Jack Gradidge, at our pop up tree distribution hub

Folly Farm is one of 52 hubs located across Wales where people can collect their tree. All trees are native, broadleaf species that will grow into small-medium sized trees suitable for gardens and smaller spaces, and will come with planting instructions. As they mature they’ll lock up carbon, fight the effects of climate change and support wildlife. After registering your address at the hub, our staff and volunteers will advise you which of the tree saplings is most suitable for your space and how to care for it.

There are 10 tree species to choose from and volunteers are on hand to advise on the best sapling for you!

“Whether you have a small garden or acres of farmland, this scheme is open to all, giving everyone and equal opportunity to grow a tree for the future of our planet” – Jack Gradidge, Folly Farm Conservation Officer.

Our Tree Giveaway Hub will be open at set times between the 20th February and 28th March (times listed below).

The hub is located outside our admission booths, so you do not have to enter the part to pick up your tree. To find the hub, simply park up in any of our car parks and follow the signs to the entrance.

Collect your tree from our helpful volunteers on select dates this spring

Opening Times:

Monday, Tuesday & Saturday 2pm-4pm

There are 10 species of tree to choose from, including Hawthorn, Elder, Rowan, Field Maple, Sessile Oak, Hazel, Silver Birch, Crab Apple, Dog Rose and Dogwood. These are available on a first come, first serve basis, and due to the popularity of the scheme we cannot guarantee you will get the tree you prefer. The trees are 1 year old saplings, measuring around 20-50cm tall.

For more information visit My Tree, Our Forest.

Can’t get to our hub?

If you are unable to get to our hub, you can join the ‘Post a Tree to Me’ scheme by completing an online form here.

Don’t have a garden?

If you don’t feel that you have space for a tree at your address, we’d still love to hear from you! The scheme is partnered with Welsh landowners to provide space to plant trees on your behalf. To have a tree planted for you, please complete the online form here.

Once your tree has been planted, the Woodland Trust will send you an email to let you know. Unfortunately, they won’t be able to let you know where the tree is planted, but rest assured it will be in safe hands!

Please note: The trees and the choice of tree species are available on a first come, first serve basis. Entry to Folly Farm attraction is not required to claim your tree. To ensure enough trees are available to all households, this phase is only available to households that have not already received a tree as part of the My Tree, Our Forest scheme – if you have already picked up a tree with this scheme, you unfortunately can not obtain more.
