Orphaned Rare Breed Besties

We may house a number of adorable animals, but none are cuter than the adorable duo currently residing in the Jolly Barn…

Ted, an incredibly fluffy seven-week-old Torwen lamb, has bonded with three month old Golden Guernsey kid ‘Gary’, and have quickly become best buds after they sadly lost their mums shortly after birth.

Orphaned BFF’s – Ted the Torwen lamb and Gary the Golden Guernsey goat kid

Both Torwen sheep and Golden Guernsey goats are listed as an ‘at risk’ species on the Rare Breed Survival Trust Watchlist and we’re the first Welsh farm park to achieve rare breed status from the RBST for our efforts and contribution to conserving rare breeds of livestock. Our rare breed paddocks in the farm showcase rare breed farm animals from across the UK and we champion some of the most amazing Welsh rare breeds, such as ‘Ted the Torwen’.

When Ted and Gary became orphaned, our rather brilliant Jolly Farmers quickly stepped in to give this perfect pair the best chance of survival, and have been hand rearing them with regular bottle feeds ever since! And, just like caring for any youngster, keepers have dedicated their time to providing round-the-clock-care.

“We only hand rear our animals when absolutely necessary, and it’s taken a lot of dedication to ensure both ‘Ted the Torwen’ and ‘Gary the Golden Guernsey’
have the best start, but it’s been totally worth it. They’ve certainly stolen our hearts and are adored by all of the staff and guests – especially when we’re able to take them out on our ‘meet and greet’ sessions!”

Gary is proving to be an extremely cheeky chap who’s always getting into mischief – whilst Ted has everyone wrapped around his little hoof. We hope you can come and visit these guys in our barn soon!
