"Mac says cheese" wins at zoo photography awards

Our Macaroni penguin captured the hearts of awards judges.

Our very own Sarah Blake, is not just a great keeper she’s also very talented with a camera. And her fabulous photo of one of our Macaroni penguins has been recognised in a national photography competition.

“Mac says cheese” was judged runner-up in the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums annual photography awards which seeks to highlight some of the more than 2,000 species that are cared for in British and Irish zoos and aquariums as well as the global conservation work they support.

“Mac says cheese” by Sarah Blake wins BIAZA photo award

Sarah’s photo was submitted under the category “Capturing Hearts and Minds” and it seems it did capture hearts being one of only eleven winners from hundreds of entries.

“BIAZA’s annual photo awards highlight not only the incredible animals visitors can see when they come to a BIAZA zoo or aquarium, but behind the scenes and field conservation work being carried out by our members.

“We were delighted with the quality and standard of the entries we received! I would like to congratulate our winners and thank everyone who entered the 2019 competition” – Dr Kirsten Pullen, CEO of BIAZA
