Lion Conservation Award For Folly Farm

We were delighted to receive an award from the Chairman of the Safina Lion Conservation Fund.

To celebrate their fifth anniversary the Chairman, James Welch, and trustees of one of our conservation partners Safina Lion Conservation Fund decided to recognise our support of the charity over the last five years. Last week two of Safina’s trustees visited us to hand over this award to our zoo curator Tim Morphew and two of our keepers Rosie Badger and Peter Bonser.

“We are incredibly grateful for all of the support from the Folly Farm team, in total they have donated £4142 since 2017 and keeper Rosie Badger raised £1600 (+£356 in Gift Aid) through sponsorships by taking part in Ironman Wales in 2018. Their support has really propelled our conservation impact to levels we could never have imagined when we first founded the charity and we are now in a position to support four conservation partners regularly. In particular it enabled us to start our support of the Kope Lion team in 2019 as their initial donations enabled us to sponsor a collar placed on Laipangwa, a wild male lion in 2020.” – James Welch, Chairman of the Safina Lion Conservation Fund

“Thank you for all of your awesome work Folly Farm and we look forward to working with you all long into the future.” – added James

The tracker which has been fitted to the lion, Laipangwa, enables the charity to track his movements.
