The legendary Black Bart's Pirate Cove

This Whitsun half term we’re delighted to officially launch our new pirate playground.

2017 is Wales’ Year of Legends and we’re celebrating our local Pembrokeshire pirating legend Bartholomew Roberts with our new pirate-themed playground.

The new playground extends from our existing pirate play area. Visitors can take command of Black Bart’s ship, the Royal Fortune, and seek the graves of his pirate crew, hunt for gold and for Black Bart’s personal treasure – his tea chest!

Mother Goose Films, made this fabulous video for the official launch of the playground. It tells the story of Black Bart and two little boys who find a map for his pirate cove at Folly Farm and go in search of treasure. You can read more about the making of our video here.

The playground was designed and built by Flights of Fantasy and has a huge amount of play value including a skull slide, skull hops, balance bone bridges, rope bridges and a rope swing.

Chris Ebsworth, Managing Director at Folly Farm, said;

“This new playground is part of our continued investment in the attraction. We’ve already opened a new visitor entrance and gift shop this year which has been very well received by our visitors but we wanted to add something for all the little (and big!) kids to play on. Our pirate play area has always been popular so it was good to be able to extend its play value and make some improvements to the existing play equipment at the same time.”

Zoë Wright, Head of Marketing at Folly Farm, added;

[Pullou]”We’re proud to be bringing Black Bart to the attention of our 500,000 annual visitors. Despite being fairly well known locally, Bartholomew Roberts has not acheived the fame of other pirates such as Blackbeard, even though he was a far more successul pirate in terms of the number of ships he captured. We love a local legend and we know our visitors will enjoy playing pirates.”[/Pullout]
