A guest post from Perfect Awnings | perfectawnings.co.uk
If you tour with an awning – whether that’s a wind-out, a driveaway, or a full porch setup – you’ll know the frustration of arriving at a site and realising the pitch isn’t going to work. Too narrow to deploy. Hardstanding with no lateral clearance, neighbours pitched so close you’d be in each other’s living rooms. Or simply nobody able to tell you at the point of booking whether an awning is even permitted.
It’s more common than it should be, and it’s exactly why Perfect Awnings launched the Perfect Pitch badge.

The Perfect Pitch badge is a verified stamp of approval from Perfect Awnings for UK campsites and holiday parks that genuinely cater for awning users – not just sites that technically permit them, but sites that have the right pitch spacing, suitable surfaces, and clear awning policies communicated to guests before they arrive.
To earn the badge, a site needs to satisfy four criteria:
We’re delighted to say that Folly Farm Holiday Park has just become one of the first sites in the UK to earn the badge.
Every touring pitch at Folly Farm is super-sized: 10 metres wide by 12 metres deep, on hardstanding gravel with a generous grass border between each pitch. To put that in context, most standard touring pitches run to around 6 to 8 metres wide. Our pitches give you significantly more lateral room than you’d find at the majority of UK sites – more than enough for even the largest wind-out awnings to deploy comfortably without any encroachment issues.
Awnings are included in the pitch fee with no additional charge, and that’s stated clearly on our website before guests reach the booking stage. We also advise guests to bring a groundsheet to protect awning floors on the hardstanding surface, and rock tent pegs to get through the gravel – small details, but exactly the kind of practical thinking that makes the difference between a stress-free setup and a frustrating one.
Our pitches are fully serviced too – 16amp electric hook up, TV aerial, drinking water, and Wi-Fi all included. Up to six guests and two dogs per pitch, no extra charge for either. The touring park is open all year with the exception of a two-week closure over Christmas, and we offer a 10% discount for Caravan and Motorhome Club members – just provide your membership number when booking.
Folly Farm sits in 100 acres of Pembrokeshire countryside, around ten minutes from Saundersfoot and fifteen minutes from Tenby – putting you within easy reach of some of the finest coastline in Wales. The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is on the doorstep, with over 186 miles of coastal path, award-winning beaches, and some genuinely spectacular scenery.
For families, there’s an obvious bonus: our award-winning attraction – zoo, farm, fairground, and adventure play – is right next door. Holiday park guests pay once for attraction entry and have unlimited access for the duration of their stay. If you’re touring with kids, that’s a significant part of the holiday sorted before you’ve even put the awning up.
While you’re here, it’s worth a quick note on what to check when booking any touring pitch.
Pitch width matters more than you think. A standard wind-out awning needs a clear run of at least 2.5 to 3 metres to deploy fully. On a narrow pitch, that quickly becomes your neighbour’s space. Always check the stated pitch width, and if it isn’t listed, ask.
Hardstanding isn’t always straightforward. Hardstanding pitches offer stability and drainage, but they can present challenges for awning pegs. Rock pegs or screw pegs are worth carrying as standard kit if you regularly pitch on gravel or compacted surfaces.
Ask the right questions before you book. Three questions worth asking any site: Is an awning allowed on this pitch? Are wind-out awnings permitted? Is there space to fully deploy? If a site can’t answer those clearly, that tells you something.
A groundsheet is good practice on hardstanding. If your awning has a sewn-in groundsheet, a protective groundsheet underneath will save it from wear on gravel or rough surfaces – something we always recommend to our guests here at Folly Farm.
If you’re looking for an awning ahead of your stay – or thinking about upgrading before the season gets going – Perfect Awnings stocks a full range of camper van and motorhome awnings including Thule and Fiamma, with free delivery on all orders to mainland UK and a Price Match Promise. They’re the people behind the Perfect Pitch scheme and know their stuff when it comes to finding the right setup for your vehicle.
